Loena M. Matyas

Loena M. (Loyer) Matyas, of Cuyahoga Falls and formerly of Warren and Cortland, died on March 7, 2008 in the Acute Palliative Care Unit, Akron City Hospital from complications from emphysema and pneumonia. She was born January 5, 1919 in Ironton, Ohio, the daughter of Samuel and Alice (Davisson) Loyer.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles, who died in 2005; her brothers Ray and Earl Loyer, and her sister Matilda Loyer.

Surviving are her daughter Patricia (Cal) King of Cuyahoga Falls; two granddaughters, Evelyn (Kevin) Metcalf of Cornelius, N.C., and Rachel (Rod) Eldred of Conneaut; and five great-grandchildren: Alexis and Zachary Rhodes, and Sidney, Reeve, and Liam Metcalf.

Loena loved their annual fishing trips to Canada, working her crossword puzzles, reading her books - and lately her talking books - and watching the Tribe play on television. She had lived with her daughter Patricia for the last three years.

A memorial service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 14, 2008 at McFarland & Son Funeral Home, with her son-in-law, Rev. Calvin King, officiating. Interment of her urn will follow at Pineview Memorial Park. Material contributions may be made to the Cuyahoga Falls Library, 2015 3rd St., Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio 44221, in the name of Loena M.
