Lewis W. Mines

Lewis W. "Bill" Mines, 78, of Warren, died on the Feast of St. Joseph, Friday, March 19, 2010 at Forum Health - Trumbull Memorial Hospital. He was born July 4, 1931 in Warren, the son of Roscoe C. and Rhea (Donahue) Mines, and had lived in Trumbull County all his life.

A 1949 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School, Mr. Mines studied electrical engineering at Hiram College. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, and worked for 39 years for the U.S. Post Office in Warren and Youngstown as a letter carrier and in maintenance.

A member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Girard, where he served as an usher, he also belonged to the Sebring Model Railroad Club, the Marlboro Volunteers (military history association), the U.S. Air Force Association, Amvets, and the American Legion. He enjoyed model railroading, big band music, Dr. Pepper, the Cleveland Indians, and Western novels and movies. Most of all, he was a generous man who made friends easily and was well-loved.

Surviving are his wife, Catherine J. (Pagesh) Mines, whom he married July 6, 1957; five children: Christine Morgan of Dublin, Ohio, Charlotte Rockar of Braceville, Martin L. (Roxanne) Mines of Warren, Tracey (Michael) Ronzi of Warren, and Kirk A. Mines of North Jackson; and thirteen grandchildren: Jennifer, Kerry, and Patty Morgan, Sarah Rockar, Samuel, Hannah, Clara, and Lewis Mines, and Aaron, Jacob, Rachel, Rita, and Gerard Ronzi. Preceding him in death are his parents and a sister, Patricia Reiss.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at Our Lady of Sorrows, with Fr. Stephen Stanich of Syracuse, N.Y. officiating. Interment will follow at Crown Hill Burial Park. Friends may call 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at McFarland & Son Funeral Home. Material contributions may be made to Our Lady of Sorrows, 525 Lawrence Ave., Girard, Ohio 44420 for Mass stipends.
