Letha C. Hughes

Letha C. Hughes, 91, of Cortland, died Sunday, November 30, 2008 at Concord Care Center in Fowler Twp. She was born April 15, 1917 in Sarcoxie, Mo., the daughter of Claude and Martha (Floyd) Baldwin, and had lived in Trumbull County since February, 2006, coming from Joplin, Mo.

A lifelong resident of Missouri, Mrs. Hughes had worked as a bookkeeper for Hughes & Skelly Company. A member of First Baptist Church of Joplin, she was an excellent seamstress who had made blankets for several nursing homes.

Surviving are her son, James L. (Joyce) Hughes of Cortland; a daughter, Mary Ann Reeds-Hughes of Gilbert, Ariz.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death are her parents; her husband, James E. Hughes, whom she married September 17, 1936 and who died January, 1995; a daughter, Martha Elaine Nixon-Hughes; and a brother.

At her request, cremation is taking place. Services are private. Burial will take place at Osborne Memorial Cemetery, Joplin, Mo.
