Leona M. Burton

Leona Marie Burton passed away on July 23, 2006. She was born in Youngstown, Ohio on August 27, 1910, the daughter of Gottlieb and Ellen Jane Ziegler. Leona, beloved wife of the late Eugene J. Burton, who preceded her in death in 1963, was a source of love and strength to her family until the end of her days.

Leona was an active member of Sacred Heart, Blessed Sacrament, and St. Charles Church. As a beautician, she owned her own business in Howland for many years. After moving to Boardman in 1969, she was employed in sales with Hughes & Hatcher. She was an avid card player, especially of bridge.

Leona is survived and dearly missed by her daughters, Barbara McCardell of Howland, Kathy Blouch of Westlake, Ohio, Jane and John (her husband) Zador of Howland, and her son, Eugene Burton of San Diego, California, her 11 grandchidlren, and 11 great-grandchildren. Aside from her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters and eight brothers.

Her family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to her loving caregivers, who held Leona's hand and gently guided her through her journey with Alzheimer's Disease.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the Antonine Sisters Day Care, 2675 Lipkey Road, North Jackson, Ohio 44451, or to the charity of your choice.

Services will be 1:30 PM Wednesday, July 26, 2006 at St. Charles Catholic Church in Boardman, with Fr. Fred Trucksis of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Warren officiating. Interment at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown will follow. Friends may call 12:30 to 1:30 PM Wednesday at St. Charles Catholic Church.
