Joseph L. Wyndham, 89, of Warren, died Thursday, October 20, 2011 after a short illness. He was born December 8, 1921 in Warren, the son of Thomas and Lyda (Barr) Wyndham, and had lived in the Warren area all his life.
Joe Wyndham built his life around public service, and around his family. A veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, Mr. Wyndham served the City of Warren as Park Superintendent, Safety-Service Director, as a member-at-large of City Council. A Republican precinct committeeman, he was a member of BPOE Lodge #295 and a 65-year member of Old Erie Lodge #3, F. & A.M. He took an active role in city politics, managing the successful Republican mayoral candidacy of Art Richards and his own campaigns as well. As Park Superintendent he oversaw the first lighted baseball fields in Warren's parks, and took a personal hand in improving landscaping and features in Warren's public spaces. He was an active member throughout his life of Second Christian Church, where he served as elder, deacon, and board chairman.
Surviving are two sons: Jeffrey L. (Susan) of Madison, and Richard L. (Becky) Wyndham of Warren; four grandchildren: Edward and Cassie Parker, and Richard J. and Peter W. (Ariana) Wyndham; and two great-grandchildren: Vincent Joseph and Leah Marie Wyndham. Preceding him in death is his wife, Dora (Fritz) Wyndham, whom he married May 1, 1943 and who died January 28, 2010; and three sisters: Edith Hatch, Theda Morris, and Edna Reep.
Joe and Dora Wyndham were high school sweethearts, and their loving partnership of over sixty years has served as a guide to their children, and to many others. Joe will be remembered for his kindness, his generosity and his wisdom. We know he is together with his beloved wife in our hearts and in the heaven in which they trusted.
