HOWLAND - Joseph L. Ohlin, 83, passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at Washington Square Healthcare Center after a brief illness. He was born on May 29, 1932 in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Joseph S. and Elizabeth (Emery) Ohlin.

Joseph was a graduate of Mount Jackson High School. He lived most of his life in the Warren area. He was a contractor by trade and retired from the Carpenter's Local 1438. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish -St. James Catholic Church. He enjoyed hunting, the outdoors, and spending time with his family.

He served his country during the Korean War with the Army Corp of Engineers, Sixth Armored Division. He attained the rank of Sergeant before being honorably discharged.

Memories of Joseph will be carried on by his children. Joseph D. Ohlin, James (Linda) Ohlin, both of Warren, and Valerie (Donald) Kissell of Santa Barbara, CA; grandchildren, Dr. Victoria (Nathan) Alexander, MaKenzie Ohlin, Connor Ohlin, Meagan Burke, James Barth, Adam (Courtney) Kissell, Ben (Renee) Kissell, Sarah Ohlin, and John Ohlin; three great-grandchildren; sister, Betsy (Donnie) Ratliff; brothers, George (Nancy) Ohlin, Paul Ohlin; numerous nieces and nephews. He will also be fondly remembered by his former wife, Virginia Ohlin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Greta Gurgacz; and brother, Carl Ohlin.

Honoring Mr. Ohlin's request, cremation has taken place and there will be no calling hours. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at 11:00 am at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish at St. James Catholic Church, 2532 Burton St. SE, Warren, with Fr. James P. Walker officiating. Final committal will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Joseph's memory be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675 or American Diabetes Association, 4500 Rockside Rd, Suite 440, Independence, OH 44131.
