John J. Sullivan, 79, of Leavittsburg, affectionately known to his friends as "Sully", died Wedensday, February 23, 2011 at St. Joseph's Health Center in Warren. He was born June 9, 1931, in Warren, the son of Anthony and Mary (Hempsy) Sullivan, and had lived in Trumbull County all his life.
Mr. Sullivan worked as a painter and in maintenance for St. Joseph Health Center. A proud 33-year member of Alcoholics Anonymous, he helped to start the New Way of Life Group at St. Joseph's Health Center. A former scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 12 in Leavittsburg, he enjoyed gardening, camping, fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family.
Surviving are two daughters: Maureen S. (Chuck) Brigham of Leavittsburg and Renee J. (Richard) Viganski of Michigan; three sons: Thomas A. (Carol Sue) of Jefferson, Sean R. of Warren, and David K. (Nicole) Sullivan of Leavittsburg; twelve grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Jo (Dick) Hoover of Newton Falls. Preceding him in death are his parents; three sisters: Katherine Haynie, Nora Lewis, and Della Shaw; and three brothers: Thomas, Anthony, and Michael Sullivan.
Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 28, 2011 at Pine Knoll Cemetery, Hewitt Gifford Rd., Warren Township, with Rev. Mark Rasey of Leavittsburg Church of God officiating. Following the services, his urn will be laid to rest at Pine Knoll Cemetery. Friends may call 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, February 26 at McFarland & Son Funeral Home.
