John V. Smedi

John V. Smedi, 75, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2006 surrounded by his loving family.

John was a lifetime resident of Warren and a graduate of Warren G. Harding. He served the Warren City Fire Department as Lieutenant for 35 years.

His hobbies were his grandsons. He will be forever loved for being devoted to them throughout their lives and being "Gramps" to all their friends. He also was a man of ambition, integrity and honor and someone they will forever look up to with the highest respect, as he did everything for his family.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Jeanette, and his son, Dr. Keith John Smedi.

He leaves his daughter Heidi Beth Smedi of Philadelphia; his grandsons Jesse, Kyle and Colin; his daughter-in-law Gayle Smedi of Cortland; a brother Henry Beben of Warren; his nieces Nicolette McGinnis of Howland and Brooke Bockhold of L.A.; and his faithful dog Mo.

All that knew John thank him for his wisdom and kindness gently interwoven into his entire life as a Father, Grandfather, Husband, Brother, Uncle, and Friend. His spirit will always remain in our hearts forever.

Calling hours are 5:00 to 7:00 PM Tuesday, April 11, 2006 at McFarland & Son Funeral Home, concluding with a brief prayer service at 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, material contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market Street, Youngstown, Ohio 44512.
