John W. Palette Obituary
John W. Palette, Jr., 80, of Howland, died Monday, December 31, 2007 after a brief but hard-fought battle with cancer. He died at home in the company of his loving family. He was born November 19, 1927 in Warren, the son of Marie (Miller) and John W. Palette, Sr., and had lived in the Warren area his entire life.
Mr. Palette was a graduate of Howland High School and served with the U.S. Marines for four years following World War II. He belonged to First United Methodist Church of Warren, where he had served as an usher. He was a proud member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 225 (now 396) for 41 years where his dedication and strong work ethic contributed to numerous construction projects throughout northeastern Ohio. After his retirement from Local 225, he worked as maintenance manager of Terrace North Condominiums for 14 years.
He was a loving husband and a proud father and grandfather who enjoyed attending all his granddaughters' activities. He also enjoyed cooking, reading, and listening to country music.
Surviving are his wife, Joan (Skidmore) Palette, whom he married February 11, 1950; two children, Linda (James) Green of Howland, and Donald (Barbara) Palette of Bolton, Mass.; three granddaughters: Jessica Palette, Jenna Green, and Lauren Palette; a sister, June Rausch of Cortland; two brothers, Wilbert (Elaine) Palette and Ralph (Barbara) Palette, both of Vienna; and a sister-in-law, Loretta Palette of Gustavus and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are his parents and two brothers, Robert Palette and twin James Palette.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 4, 2008 at First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Rick Oaks officiating. Interment will follow at Crown Hill Burial Park. Friends may call 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at McFarland & Son Funeral Home, and 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Friday in the Van Wye Room of the church. Material contributions may be made either to First United Methodist Church, 309 N. Park Ave., Warren, Ohio 44481, or to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Boardman, Ohio 44512.
