John "Jack" Mears

John “Jack” Mears of Niles passed away on Monday, October 24, 2016 at 2:15 p.m. in Briarfield Manor. He was 84.
Jack was born in Niles on August 18, 1932, the son of the late Michael and Hazel Garland Mears.
He was a 1951 graduate of St. Mary’s High School. Years later, Mr. Mears attended classes at Youngstown State University.
Jack retired in 2005 after 47 years as a draftsman for the City of Niles.
Mr. Mears was a lifelong member of St. Stephens Church. He enjoyed daily walks at the Niles Wellness Center, woodworking, and shooting at the Greenville Rod and Gun Club. Most importantly he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Jack is survived by his wife, Kathleen Leonard Mears, whom he married September 8, 1956. They cherished 60 years of marriage just this year; 2 sons, Mark Mears of Dayton, OH and Kevin (Amy) Mears of Chillicothe, OH; 2 grandchildren, Bridget and Michael Mears.
In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Elizabeth Rook and Verona Durig; a brother, Robert Mears.

Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 27, 2016 in the Wm Nicholas Funeral Home and Cremation Services LLC 614 Warren Ave. Niles, OH 44446.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take placed on Friday, October 28, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Stephen Church with Fr. Thomas G. Ziegler as celebrant. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:40 a.m. for mass.
