John D. McFarland

John D. McFarland, 70, of Aurora, OH, passed away on October 1, 2011 at the Anna Maria Nursing Home, Aurora. He was born on October 9, 1940 to Charles and Isabelle (Hitchings) McFarland at Warren, OH.

He graduated from Warren G. Harding class of 1958 and Hiram College class of 1962 . John worked as a US Government and History Teacher for Crestwood Local Schools in Mantua Ohio where he was the coach of the Academic Challenge Team.

John was a member of the Lions Club, OEA and NEOTA and served as a representative to the NEA national convention. He was a founding member of C-ACT, and a member of the Mantua Men's Bridge Club. He enjoyed chair caning, photography, jigsaw puzzles and hunting for arrowheads.

John is survived by his loving spouse, the former Alice Moore of Aurora whom he married December 21, 1963, 2 daughters, Katheryne (Robert) Igo of South Euclid, OH, and Linda (Ray) Jablonski of Streetsboro, OH; 2 sisters, Ann (John) Sinclair of Howland Twp., OH, and Janet (Everett) Wise of Columbus, OH.

His family will receive friends Thursday, October 6, 2-4 pm with a Memorial Service to follow at 4:00 pm at The McFarland & Son Funeral Home, Warren, OH. Lay Leader Christie Anderson will officiate. In lieu of flowers the family ask that contributions be made to the Portage Co. Animal Protective League, 8122 Infirmary Rd.
