John C. "Jack" Gibson

February 25, 1928 — July 11, 2014

Warren - John C. "Jack" Gibson, Sr., 86, local contractor and well known business leader, passed away on July 11, 2014 at Vista on the Ridge Skilled Nursing facility. He was born on February 25, 1928 in Warren, and was the son of the late Russell and Betty (Isiminger) Gibson.

A proud life-long resident of Warren, Jack was formerly with the WB Gibson Co, and in 1982 he co-founded the Jack Gibson Construction Company. He attended the Warren City Schools and was a 1944 graduate of Columbia Military Academy, and in 1952 from Youngstown College. He and his family have been longtime members of St. Paul Lutheran Church.

A great fan of President Theodore Roosevelt, Jack tried to live like Roosevelt's man in the arena as a man, father and community leader who "actually strive(s) to do the deeds... who spends himself in a worthy cause.

Jack was married to the former Mary Cassel Gibson on August 28, 1948 with whom he had four children. Surviving are his daughters; Linda G. Dorman of Los Angeles, CA and Gretchen E. (Rick) McQuown of Black Lick, OH, sons; John C. (Lynn) Gibson, Jr. of Warren, current CEO of Jack Gibson Construction Co. and Christopher L. (Dee Dee) Gibson of TX, 10 grandchildren; Monica and Rachael Dorman, Michelle (Tim) Muir, Jennifer (Chris) Eichorn, John III (Sarah)and Jason Gibson, Christopher (fiancAC. Courtney) and Sarah Gibson, and Bonnie and Clay McQuown and 5 great-grandchildren; Jack, Ian, Luke Gibson and Christopher and Alaina Eichorn.

Preceding him in death are his beloved wife, Mary, two brothers; Tom and Jerry, grandson Ross McQuown and son-in-law Gary Dorman.

Both Gibson Construction firms built many of the well known public buildings in Warren, including the post office, Packard Music Hall, Warren Tribune, Lincoln K - 8 School and restoration of the Trumbull County Court House and Law Library for which the Jack Gibson Construction Co. was awarded the National Award of Excellence by Associated General Contractors of America.

He served on the boards of Second National Bank, Second National Bancorp, and Sovereign Circuits, Inc. He was a trustee and chairman of the State of Ohio Carpenters Pension Fund and trustee and vice president of the Mahoning Valley Economic Development Corporation and was president of the Builders Association in 1971.

Mr. Gibson had received several honors for his civic activities included being named Mahoning Valley Person of the Year. His activities include; Trumbull County American Red Cross, Warren Kiwanis Club and a over 20 year member and past president of the Warren Chamber of Commerce. He was an emeritus advisory board member of the Salvation Army and served as its president for two years. In 1994 he was co-chairman of the Building Campaign to raise funds to renovate the Franklin Street facility where he was presented a life membership. and was a charter member the Board of Trustees for Trumbull 100 For the Future. He served his country in Korea in the US Army from 1946 till 1948.

He was also a member of and or sponsor of the Trumbull Art Guild, Warren Ballet, Trumbull New Theater, Warren Chamber Orchestra, Butler Art Institute, March of Dimes, United Way, Elks Club #295, Trumbull Country Club and The Warren G Harding Tartans, Buckeye and Youngstown Clubs.

Family and friends may gather at the McFarland & Son Funeral Home, Warren Thursday July 17, 2014 from 5:00pm till 7:00pm and Friday one hour prior to the 1:00pm service at St. Paul Lutheran Church with The Reverend Ann Marie Winters officiating. Internment will follow with full military honors at Crown Hill Burial Park.
