John H. Gaffey

John H. Gaffey, 74, of Warren, died 11:15 AM Monday, October 3, 2005 at Autumn Hills Care Center in Niles. He was born June 21, 1931 in Warren, the son of Charles E. and Elizabeth R. Fleming Gaffey, and had lived in the Warren area all his life.

John was a 1951 graduate of St. Mary's High School. He worked at the Trumbull County Courthouse for 37 years, retiring in 1989, and was well known for his work as an elevator operator. He was a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 620, and was a former coach of the Knights of Columbus softball team. John was an avid sports fan and was, for many years, a season ticket holder for all sports for Warren G. Harding and John F. Kennedy High Schools.

John is survived by his brother, J. Robert Gaffey of Warren; three sisters-in-law: Catherine, Gretchen, and Virginia Gaffey, all of Warren; thirteen nieces and nephews; many great-nieces and great-nephews; and his special friend, Doris Haryu of Warren.

Preceding him in death are his parents and two brothers, Dr. Charles W. Gaffey and Thomas J. Gaffey.

Services for John will be 10:00 AM Thursday, October 6, 2005 at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 180 Belvedere N.E., Warren, Ohio 44483, with Fr. Robert Karl officiating. Interment at All Souls Cemetery will follow. Friends may call 5:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday at McFarland & Son Funeral Home. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home 9:30 AM Thursday, before the procession to the church. Material contributions may be made to SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
