James R. Mechling, 78, of Leavittsburg, died Saturday, December 29, 2007 at Horizon Village Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Warren. He was born January 3, 1929 in Niles, the son of Doyle and Elizabeth (Harmon) Mechling, and had lived in Trumbull County his entire life.
Mr. Mechling worked as a shear foreman in the #17 mill of U.S. Steel in McDonald for 34 years, retiring in 1980. While at U.S. Steel, he also worked for Berk Exterminating in Warren. He was a member of First Community Church of Leavittsburg. He enjoyed working on cars, playing solitaire, and fishing, and taught all these pleasures to his grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife, Gloria M. (Winyard) Mechling, whom he married July 23, 1949; three children: Linda (Max) Dominick of North Canton, Edith (Kenneth) Iser of Warren, and Carol (Dean) Shanower of Warren; a son-in-law, William Bower of Warren; six grandchildren: Michele Dominick, Angela (Chris) Stohlman, Jennifer (Dave) Beachler, Kenneth (Leslie) Iser, Dean (Regan) and Brian Shanower; five great-grandchildren; Jonathan and Jenna McNemar, and Amber, Emily, and Mason Beachler; three sisters: Edith (Dale) Mitterbrink of Nebraska, Ruth Satterfield of Austintown, and Edna (Tom) McGuane of Jacksonville, Fla.; and four brothers: Jay (Ruth) of Austintown, John (Wanda) of Warren, Harold (Debbie) of Newton Falls, and Doyle "Bud" (Rebecca) Mechling of Jacksonville, Fla. Preceding him in death are his parents; a daughter, Shirley Bower; two sisters, Marge Sutton and Beulah Yurkus; and three brothers: William, Robert, and David Mechling.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at First Community Church of Leavittsburg, with Rev. John Jaros and Rev. Rodney Winyard officiating. Interment will follow at Pine Knoll Cemetery in Warren Township. Friends may call 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at McFarland & Son Funeral Home, and 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
