Cortland, Ohio - James A. Finley, 74, died Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at St. Joseph's Health Center from a rare lung cancer, mesothelioma. He was born on September 15, 1942 in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of the late James E. and Mary Tyler Finley.
James was employed by Delphi as an Engineer for 34 years before retiring. He was a past member of Lions Club, Cortland, OH, Moose Lodge, Cortland, OH, Past President of Cortland Historical Society and co-owner of Finley Flowers, Cortland, OH. He attended Youngstown State University and Kent State University majoring in Business.
He served his country in the United States Air Force from 1963 until 1969 as a E-4.
Memories of James will be carried on by wife, Nancy Warner Finley of Cortland, OH, son, Michael Finley of Summerville, SC, daughter, Julie (Brian) Spotts of North Canton, OH, daughter, Wendy (Clint) Finley Waldvogel of Mentor, OH, grandson, Perry Finley, granddaughter, Lauren Finley, granddaughter, Meghan Finley, grandson, Lee Finley, granddaughter, Hannah Finley, grandson, Justin Spotts, granddaughter, Darian Finley, brother, John (Rosemary) Finley, brother, Jeff Finley, and sister, Joanne Wisor.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Judy Riggs, father, James E. Finley, and mother, Mary Tyler Finley.
Family will receive friends Sunday, May 7, 2017 from 3:00 p.m. at Cortland United Methodist, 155 North High Street, Cortland,OH with a memorial service to be held at 4 p.m. with Pastor David Vensel officiating.
