Jack R. Root, 80, of Warren, passed away Friday, February 24, 2012 at Trumbull Memorial Hospital. He was born August 9, 1931 in Howland and was the son of Ceylon and Margaret (Bauer) Root. Jack lived in Trumbull County all his life with the exception of a few years he spent living with his cousin, Norma Garman, in Akron.
A graduate of Johnston High School, Mr. Root was a Korean War-era veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard and worked as an electrician for GE Ohio Lamp for 39 years. Jack was a member of the Silver Sneakers, the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge and frequented Scope to play cards and bingo. He also enjoyed bowling, tennis, golf, walking, traveling, and watching sporting events. He was an avid fan of the Warren G. Harding Raiders, the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Cleveland Indians, and most of all, his two granddaughters. Jack or "Pop', as he was known to many, never missed a single activity his girls were in.
He cherished his only daughter, Jean, with all of his heart. He was her best friend and there for all three of his girls in times of need and in times of celebration. Pop put his family first and supported them in every way possible. He loved his daughter and granddaughters more than anything in the world.
Jack loved to make people laugh and had a smile that lit up the room. He was ornery, charming, and incredibly unselfish, which caused everyone who met him to love, admire, and respect him.
Surviving are his daughter, Jean L. Rupert of Warren; two granddaughters, Shannon M. Rupert of Warren and Megan R. Rupert of Alliance; a brother, Marlin (Regina) Root of Michigan; two nephews, Brian and Bradley; a niece, April; three great-nephews; one great-niece; numerous cousins; and his dear friend, Dorothy Fowley, of Warren.
