Jack E. Hughes

Jack E. Hughes, Sr. 84, of Southington, was ushered into the presence of the Lord on Friday, February 22, 2008, surrounded by his loving family at the home of his daughter. He was born March 26, 1923 in Cadiz, Ohio, the son of John and Mary Jane (Young) Hughes.

Mr. Hughes served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked for Federal Machine & Welding, and retired as a machinist from Thomas Steel in 1982. He had served as a volunteer fireman in Bolindale, and later was active with the athletic and band boosters in Southington. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, and was an avid sports fan of Southington sports.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Lillian (Griffith) Hughes, whom he married April 25, 1945; his daughter and son-in-law, Lynne R. and Larry Brady of Champion; his daughter-in-law, Yvette Hughes of Champion; three grandchildren: Jesse (Jennifer) Hughes, and Kory and J'me Brady; and two great-grandchildren, Abigail and Collin Hughes. Preceding him in death are his parents; a son, Jack E. Hughes, Jr.; and a sister, Irene Harrell.

Services are 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at McFarland & Son Funeral Home, with Rev. Paul Camp of St. John's Lutheran Church officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Pineview Memorial Park. Friends may call 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
