WARREN - Irene A. Shay, 89, died on April 28, 2015 after an extended illness. She was born May 30, 1925 in Pittsburgh, PA, the daughter of John and Susaane (Pjatka) Salva.
Irene grew up in the Liberty Steel area of Warren Township and resided in the same house on the west side of Warren for the last 63 years. Irene married George John Shay, Jr. on June 19, 1949 and they were married for 21 years until his passing in 1970. George was a masonry contractor and a veteran of WWII D-day. She had worked at the Trumbull Lamp Division of the GE Lighting in Warren until her children came. Irene was a homemaker, Cub Scout Den Mother and loved her dogs and cats. She especially enjoyed camping at Indian Creek in Geneva-on-the-Lake with her grandchildren.
Cherished memories of Irene will be carried on by sons, George (Janice) Shay of Braceville, David Shay of Warren; four grandchildren, Amanda Shay of Philadelphia, George IV, Thomas, and Hannah Shay, all of Braceville; brother, John Salva of Southington; sister, Mary Margaret Pap of Cortland; plus several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her husband, George John Shay, Jr.; sisters, Olga Gilbert and Emma Molnar.
Friends are invited on Saturday, May 9, 2015 from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm at McFarland and Son Funeral Home with a Memorial Service to follow. Burial will take place at a later date at Pine Knoll Cemetery, where she will be buried next to her husband.
