Hugh S. Lindsey

May 30, 1925 — January 31, 2014

WARREN - Mr. Hugh S. Lindsey, 88, passed at his daughter and son-in-law's home in North Bloomfield on Friday, January 31, 2014. He was born on May 30, 1925 the son of the late James and Jessie (Stamper) Lindsey. He was a native of Pennsylvania and had many fond memories of his childhood and teenage years there. He has many relatives who still reside in Pennsylvania.

Hugh has been a resident of Ohio for the past 68 years. He was an avid fan of the Cleveland Browns and Indians, and the Ohio State Buckeyes. They were a passionate sports pastime for him, and he spent many hours discussing their wins and losses at the Ohio Inn and the Buena Vista. He was a respected umpire in the Leavittsburg Athletic Association for many years, and a member of the Leavittsburg Fish and Game.

He was a PFC in the United States Marine Corps and was very proud of his military service for his country in the Pacific Theater during World War II. A trip to the Marine Corps Museum at Quantico, VA was especially memorable for him and something he cherished.

He was employed as a guard at the Lordstown Army Depot as well as working at Packard Electric Div. of GM, where he met his wife, Kay. They were married September 20, 1977 and have enjoyed 36 years together. Together they enjoyed their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Hugh was a very giving person. He taught his family that manners, love, care of family, and acceptance of people for who they are, is how to live your life. Memories of Hugh will be carried on by his devoted wife, Kay (Panfiloff) Lindsey of Warren; daughters: Cynthia (Gene) Rider of Bowling Green, KY, and Dawn (Daniel) Hartson, Sr. of North Bloomfield; son-in-law, Louie Donathan of Jefferson; 7 stepchildren: Karen (Bob) Giesey of Cocoa, FL, Paul (Yuki) Zackeroff of Okinawa, Japan, Suzi (Ed) Peace of New Springfield, JoAnn Lock of Cortland, Robert (Robin) Zackeroff of Warren, Greg (Neryvette) Zackeroff of Rockledge, FL; and many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jennifer Donathan of Jefferson; stepdaughter, Cathy Jurgle of Warren; brothers: Robert Lindsey and James Lindsey; and grandson, Jesse Joy.

There will be a celebration of his life at a later date. Military Honors and services of final committal will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio.

His family suggests contributions be made in the form of donations to Hospice of the Valley of Trumbull County, 5000 E. Market St., Suite 19, Warren, OH 44484.

Arrangements are entrusted to McFarland and Son Funeral and Cremation Services Co, 271 North Park Avenue, Warren, OH 44481, 330-393-9621. Please visit www.McFarlandCares.com to view this obituary, and send condolences.
