Hope E. McMillin

Hope Elizabeth Weir McMillin, 91, died peacefully on February 16, 2010 after six years at Pine Valley Care Center, Richfield, Ohio. Her death was preceded by the death of her husband, Delbert C. McMillin, and two of her sisters, Ruby Williams and Anna Hawley.

Hope was born on July 29, 2918 in Warren, Ohio, the daughter of James S. Weir and Leah Bieber Weir. Hope and Del were life-long members of Tod Avenue United Methodist Church and its very active Angelus Sunday School Class. Hope will be remembered by many former kids at McGuffey School where she was the secretary, and for delivering church flowers on Sundays to people in need.

They enjoyed camping, sailing, retreats, Sundays at Lake Erie or Mill Creek Park, and especially "five hundred" card parties with home made ice cream with the Angelus Class members. Hope's seldom duplicated Butterscotch Floating Island, along with her scalloped corn, chocolate-covered nougat Easter eggs, buttermilk fudge, chocolate chip cookies, and seafoam candy were always treats.

Hope and Del traveled with their family throughout the USA such that the kids had visited 48 states by the time they graduated high school. Hope is survived by a brother Dick of Largo, Fla., a sister Leah Grace of Longmont, Colo.; her children Bill of Newark, Calif., Fred of El Paso, Tex., Carl of Brecksville, and Leah Beth of Stow. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren that are scattered around the globe in Ohio, Michigan, California, the Caribbean, and Australia.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 15, 2010 at Crown Hill Burial Park, 3966 Warren Sharon Rd, Vienna, Ohio 44473, where her ashes and a deck of cards will be laid to rest alongside Del with his matching deck of cards.
