APPLE CREEK, OH - Helen S. Wetzel, 98, formerly of Warren, died Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at Summa Akron City Hospital. She was born on November 5, 1916 in Slovan, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Anna (Branska) Znoy.
In her earlier days, Helen worked in the steel mills of Weirton, WV and was a welder at Federal Machine, where she built tanks during World War II. She also worked for Nuskievicz Realty in Warren for several years. She was a former member of Christ Our King Church and enjoyed planting flowers and gardening.
Memories of Helen will be carried on by son, Charles (Bonnie) Wetzel of Apple Creek, OH; granddaughter, Nicole (Nicholas) Hoff of Salem, OH; granddaughter, Niki (Pete) Hunt of Orrville, OH; granddaughter, Megan (Sean) Seder of Mt. Vernon, OH; 3 great-grandchildren; and sister, Stephanie Vucelich of Tipp City, OH.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clyde B. Wetzel, whom she married July 8, 1942 and died on December 6, 1971; and 6 brothers.
Family will receive friends Tuesday, March 24, 2015 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at McFarland & Son Funeral Home, Warren. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am at the funeral home with Fr. Bernard Schmalzried officiating. Services of final committal will follow at All Souls Cemetery in Cortland, Ohio.
