Helen S. Clemente

Helen S. Clemente, 90, formerly of Niles, died Monday, June 6, 2011 at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte, Fla. She was born March 22, 1921 in Girard, the daughter of Samuel and Maria (Sabio) Gerdine, and had lived in Trumbull County most of her life.

A World War II-era "Rosie the Riveter" at Packard Electric, Mrs. Clemente was a graduate of Girard High School and had worked as a clerk at Carlisle Department Store. A member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Niles, she had done volunteer work with Habitat for Humanity in Port Charlotte, and enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, crafts, yard work, and gardening.

Surviving are three children: Anita (John) Nagy of Lake Suzy, Fla., Arlene (Tom) Graham of both Pulaski, Pa. and Lake Suzy, Fla., and Neil (Dorothy) Clemente of Wentzville, Mo.; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. Preceding her in death is her husband, Joseph L. Clemente, whom she married September 13, 1945 and who died January 15, 1996; five sisters: Mary Palumbi, Nancy Dombrosky, Rose Marie Vaccar, Angela Palmer, and Carmella "Dolly" Sherman; and three brothers: Carmen, Philip, and Joseph Gerdine.

According to her wishes, cremation is taking place. Services are private. Material contributions may be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, N.Y. 10018.
