Helen Madeline Carnahan, 74, of Leavittsburg, died at home Thursday, September 8, 2011. She was born March 27, 1937 in Buckhannon, W. Va., the daughter of Russell and Lurene (Zickefoose) Tenney, and had lived in Trumbull County since the 1950s.
A graduate of Bristol High School, Mrs. Carnahan worked fifteen years as a long-distance truck driver, covering the U.S. and Canada. She also worked for five years at Kraftmaid Cabinetry. She enjoyed gardening, baking, cooking, crocheting, reading, family picnics, and Hallmark movies, with "Sarah Plain and Tall" being her favorite.
Surviving are eight children: Kathy (James) Stevey of Leavittsburg, Tim (Frankie) Heatherly of Buckhannon, Pam (Nick) Della Penna of Leavittsburg, Steve (Paula) Heatherly of Southington, Russell (Lisa) Heatherly of Leavittsburg, Mary (Jeff) Applequist of Bristolville, Amy Tucker of Leavittsburg, who was also her caretaker, and Mark (Cora) Heatherly of Southington; a granddaughter who lived with her, Madalyn (Edwin) Patterson, and eighteen other grandchildren; her great-grandchildren, Melia and Chris Patterson, and forty-three other great-grandchildren; four sisters; and three brothers. Preceding her in death is her husband, Charles E. Carnahan, whom she married in 1973 and who died in 1993; her son-in-law, Bill Tucker, who died in 2007; two sisters; and one brother.
Services are 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at McFarland & Son Funeral Home, with Rev. Fred Keener of Bristolville Church of the Brethren officiating. Interment will follow at Meadow Brook Memorial Park. Friends may call 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
