Hazel J. Barta, 88, of Warren, died Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at Briarfield Manor in Austintown. She was born November 21, 1920 in Bazetta, the daughter of William Jacob and Mayme (Roberts) MinYoung, and had lived in Northeast Ohio all her life.

Mrs. Barta was a 1938 graduate of Rome High School and had worked at Sears as a catalog manager. A member of Grace United Methodist Church and Morning Light Chapter No. 80, Order of the Eastern Star, she was a great seamstress who enjoyed knitting, tatting, cooking, and most of all, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Jacqueline and Jerry Smith of Warren; two grandchildren, Jennifer (Doug) Holland and Nelson William Thomason; and two great-grandchildren, Morgan Lynn Wigle and Tristan Xavier Holland. Preceding her in death are her parents and her brother, William Henry MinYoung.

Services are 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 12, 2008 at McFarland & Son Funeral Home, with Rev. Warren Outhwaite officiating. Friends may call 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Material contributions may be made either to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Boardman, Ohio 44512, or to Grace United Methodist Church, 1725 Drexel N.W., Warren, Ohio 44485.
