Hayward L. "Lee" Ross, 73, of Southington, died Monday, June 27, 2011 at St. Joseph Health Center in Warren. He was born March 30, 1938 in Roanoke, W. Va., the son of Percy Deavers and Beatrice Phillips, and had lived in Trumbull County since 1967.
A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Mr. Ross was a graduate of Pine Grove (W. Va.) High School, West Virginia University, and Kent State University. An engineer, he was employed by Van Huffel Tube and Good Year Aerospace as senior tool designer and manager. A former member of the Warren Jaycees, he had been a Little League coach in Champion and served as Cub Master for Pack 27 at Champion Presbyterian Church. A deacon at Champion Presbyterian Church, he also served as a trustee at Southington Christian Church and sang in the church choir and gospel quartet.
He also enjoyed music, hunting, fishing, woodworking, golf, bowling, CB radios, and gardening. He had built a log cabin from trees that he had cut.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley (Himelrick) Ross, whom he married November 26, 1960; two children: Michele (Fr. Gregory) Thompson of Warren, and Michael L. (Jenifer) Ross of Atlanta, Ga.; three grandchildren: Gary (Kim) III and Kymberlee Thompson, and Laney Ross; a great-grandson, Mayson Thompson; a sister, Betty Kay (James) Faddoul; a brother, Marshall "Butch" (Elizabeth) Ross, both of Cleveland; and several nieces and nephews. His parents precede him in death.
Services are 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 30, 2011 at McFarland & Son Funeral Home, with Rev. Ed Dulka officiating. Interment will follow at Southington Graham Cemetery, where full military honors will be conferred. Friends may call 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday and 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
