Harry L. Porterfield Jr. of Girard, formerly of Sharon, PA, passed away on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 in his residence. He was 94.
Mr. Porterfield was born at his family home in Sharon, PA on March 5, 1927, the son of Harry and Amelia E. Copper Porterfield.
After leaving school, Harry proudly served our country as a Sergeant in the United States Army serving during Korea.
Harry worked in the maintenance field at local steel companies. He enjoyed going to his camp in German Hill spending his time fishing and hunting. He was a member of the VFW Post 1338, the American Legion, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
He is survived by 3 daughters, Suean Klamer, Joan (Marvin) Gregory, and Robin (James) Swartz; 2 sons, Richard (Dawn) Porterfield and Ronald (Gina) Porterfield, with whom he made his home; 3 sister, Alice “Nan” (Harry) McKelvey, Elizabeth “Betty Mae” (Doug) King, and Phyllis Hiles; 5 brothers, William, Howard (Etta), Francis “Jerry” (Laura), Frank “Joe” (Sandra), and George “Hoppy” (Lynn) Porterfield; he also leaves 14 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Harry was preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, Lena Tobash Porterfield, who passed away in 2012, brothers Elmer, James, and twins Clarence and Charles, a brother-in-law Jim, a sister-in-law Rose, and an infant grandson Paul Klamer.
The family would like to thank Hospice of the Valley and Comfort Keepers for their caring and kindness during this time.
A memorial will be held in his honor at a later date.
