Harry E. Newman, Sr., 78, of Newton Falls, died Sunday, May 15, 2011 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. He was born September 16, 1932 in Warren, the son of Clair and Jennie (Snyder) Newman, and had lived in Trumbull and Portage counties all his life.
A graduate of Warren G. Harding High School, Mr. Newman was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and worked for Dairy Mart as director of human resources. A lifelong and active member of Second Christian Church in Warren, he also belonged to Old Erie Lodge #3, F. & A.M., and Scottish Rite, Valley of Youngstown, 32nd Degree. He enjoyed golf and bowling, and had given much time to serving meals to the poor and working in the church's food pantry.
Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Jane "Betty" (Hovis) Newman, whom he married July 10, 1953; three children: Harry E. (Donna) Newman, Jr. of Champion, Robin E. (Bill Apar) Myers of Avon Lake, and Wendy E. (Ron) Croell of Newton Falls; and six grandchildren. Preceding him in death are a sister, Dorothy Painter; and two brothers: Ron Harper and Charles Newman.
A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 19, 2011 at McFarland & Son Funeral Home. Friends may call from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Masonic services, led by Old Erie Lodge #3, F. & A.M., will be conducted at 5:45 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
