Harry G. Engster, 91, of Warren, died peacefully at home Wednesday, November 16, 2011. He was born November 4, 1920 in Warren, the son of Harry and Bertha (Bender) Engster, and had lived in the Warren area all his life.
A graduate of Warren G. Harding High School and Youngstown State University, Mr. Engster was a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and retired as Commander in the Naval Reserves. A Certified Public Accountant with Packer Thomas before he retired, he enjoyed hunting, boating, tennis, golf, and playing Santa Claus every year for children. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where he had served as an Elder and a Deacon.
Surviving are his wife, Ann M. (Lucy) Engster, whom he married February 2, 1945; two children: Charles D. Engster of Mason, Ohio, and Diane C. (William) Engster-Yolton of Alexandria, Va.; and a granddaughter, Jessica (Dan) Winters. A sister, Ruth Myers, precedes him in death.
Services are 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 21, 2011 at McFarland & Son Funeral Home, with Rev. William Yolton, Mr. Engster's son-in-law, officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at Crown Hill Burial Park. Friends may call 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Material contributions may be made to Southeastern Guide Dogs, 4210 77th Street East, Palmetto, Fla. 34221. Your donation will fund the "Paws for Patriots" program which provides guide dogs to veterans.
