Gregory D. Whitman, 57, of Centerville, Ohio and formerly of Warren, died at home in Centerville. He was born August 27, 1946 in Warren, the son of the late Claude R. and Alma Irby Whitman.
Mr. Whitman was a graduate of Warren G. Harding High School, attended Kent State University, and served in the U.S. Air Force. He had worked as shop chairman and president of Local Union #717 at Packard Electric. He was also assistant to IUE District 7 president and served as director of arbitration. He recently retired from IUE-CWA International Union in Dayton. He was affiliated with the Masonic Lodge in Fairborn, Ohio.
Surviving Mr. Whitman are his wife, Rose Albertini Whitman of Centerville; a brother, Craig R. (Judy) Whitman of Niles; a sister, Karen (Walter) Hrinsin of Georgia; two stepdaughters: Elaine M. (Patrick) Muller of New London, Wisconsin and Amanda R. (Kenneth) Stewart of Anchorage, Alaska; three step-grandchildren: Jessa Lynn Muller, Kenneth Reid Stewart, and Grayce Elaine Stewart; and his in-laws, Alvah G. and Pauline M. Craig of Spring Valley, Ohio.
Services for Mr. Whitman will be 8:00 PM Saturday, July 10, 2004 at McFarland and Son Funeral Home, 271 North Park Avenue, Warren, Ohio 44481. Friends may call at the funeral home 7:00 to 8:00 PM Saturday. Masonic services will be held 6:45 PM Saturday at the funeral home. Material contributions may be made to the Gregory D. Whitman Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 86, Warren, Ohio 44482, a fund established for students of labor relations. Private burial will be held at a later date.
