Grace Virginia Kershner entered peacefully into the arms of the Lord on June 13, 2012 after a brief illness.
She was born in Warren on December 11, 1920, the loving daughter of James and Nellie Williams Kershner.
Grace graduated from Warren G. Harding High School in the January class of 1939. She attended Warren Business College.
She was employed by the Warren City Board of Education for thirty-five years, first as a disbursement clerk, then as a secretary to the Assistant Superintendent of Schools, and finally as secretary to the Superintendent of Schools.
She was a lifelong member of Calvary Presbyterian Church, a volunteer with the American Red Cross at Trumbull Memorial Hospital, a member of School Employee Retirees of Ohio, and an avid supporter of the Animal Welfare League.
She loved to read, bake, and listen to music. Her real passion was her love for flowers and all animals, especially wild birds and cats.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Madelyn Kershner of Warren; four nieces: Roberta (Bill) Duda, Pat Infield, Claudia (Doug) Dalrymple, and Sandi (Joe) Petiya; two nephews, Jeff (Susan) and James (Lynne) Kershner; twelve great-nieces and nephews; and eleven great-great-nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death are her parents; three brothers: Robert, James, and Frank Kershner; and a niece, Susan E. Kershner.
The family wishes to thank Hospice of the Valley and the wonderful staff at Washington Square for their outstanding and tender care in Grace's time of need.
Calling hours will be Saturday, June 16, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at McFarland & Son Funeral Home, followed by a memorial service at 3:00 p.m., with the Rev. David Black officiating. The family asks that any material contributions in memory of Grace be made either to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Youngstown, Ohio 44512, or the Animal Welfare League, 545 Brunstetter Rd. S.W., Warren, Ohio 44481.
