Gloria J. Grubbs

Gloria J. Grubbs, 78, of Howland, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at her home. Gloria was born August 17, 1932 in Erie, Pa., the daughter of Merle and Ruth Rosenburg. She lived in Fairview, Pa. until 1968, when she and Will moved to Howland.

She was a member of Howland United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School, served on the Council of Ministries, and was the first female trustee of the church. She also belonged to the Warren Women's Book Club, Birthday Girls, and Words of Wisdom of Warren. A former Girl Scout leader, she volunteered her time and talents at Hillside Hospital and for Mobile Meals. She was an avid reader and enjoyed golf whenever she was able.

Surviving are her husband, Wilbur C. "Will" Grubbs, whom she married December 1, 1952; two sons: Gregory (Ruth) of Tryon, N.C., and Donald (Lynn) Grubbs of Aurora, Ohio; a daughter, Diane (Scott) Taylor of Cortland; four grandchildren: Tim and Jeff Grubbs, and Drew and Brooke Taylor; a sister, Donna (Gary) Wilkins of New Cumberland, Pa.; and a brother, Jim (Carol) Rosenburg of Crewe, Va.

A memorial service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 4, 2011 at Howland United Methodist Church, with Rev. William McFadden and Rev. Matthew Darrin officiating. Friends may call 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, material contributions may be made either to Howland United Methodist Church, 730 Howland Wilson Rd. N.E., Warren, Ohio 44484, or the Salvation Army, 270 Franklin S.E., Warren, Ohio 44483.
