George J. Treisch

CHAMPION - George J. Treisch, 86, passed away Saturday, September 19, 2015 at Trumbull Memorial Hospital. He was born on July 5, 1929 in Galion, Ohio, the son of the late George and Edith (Butler) Treisch.

George was a 1947 graduate of Galion High School, where he played varsity baseball and basketball. He was a standout south paw pitcher who would go on to sign with the Cleveland Indians, where he played in their minor league farm system for several years. He worked for the New York Central Railroad before being drafted. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. He retired after 37 years from Packard Electric as an electrician.

George was a member of the Elks, Old Erie Lodge #3 F & AM, American Legion, and volunteered for Meals of Wheels. George remained an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns and the Ohio State Buckeyes. He also played basketball in various competitive leagues.

Memories of George will be carried on by wife, Patricia "Pat" C. (Eckstein) Treisch of Warren, whom he married July 15, 1951; sons, Terrence (Inetha) Treisch of Columbia, SC, Jeffrey (Nenita) Treisch of Menifee, CA; granddaughter, Jennifer Treisch of Asheville, NC; grandson, Bradley Treisch of Menifee, CA; granddaughter, Megan Treisch of Menifee, CA; brother, Walter Treisch of Forest Park, IL; nieces, Karen Rarick, Shirley Huggins, Pat Combs, Glenda Shull, all of Bucyrus, OH; plus many great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Paul Treisch; sisters, Velma Batton, and Ruth Scott.

Following George's wishes, cremation will take place. Private family graveside services at Fairview Cemetery in Galion will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, his family suggests contributions be made in the form of donations to the American Cancer Society, 525 N. Broad St., Canfield, OH 44406 or the Animal Welfare League, 812 Youngstown Kingsville Rd., Vienna, OH 44473.
