George R. Mahan

George R. Mahan, 61, of Warren, died Saturday, April 16, 2011 at home. He was born July 29, 1949 in Warren, the son of Dewey and Margaret (Longstreth) Mahan, and had lived in Trumbull County all his life.

Mr. Mahan served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. For his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, a Combat Infantry Badge, two overseas bars, two Meritorious Service Medals, two Army Commendation Medals, the Silver Star Medal, and the Expert Rifle Badge. A loving father and grandfather, he enjoyed computers and playing video games with his grandchildren.

Surviving are three daughters: Nancy Bartholomew of Lordstown, and Melissa Mahan and Michelle Henderson, both of Warren; seventeen grandchildren; and four brothers: William and Patrick of Warren, Thomas of Oklahoma, and David Mahan of Florida. Preceding him in death are his parents and his wife, Patricia (Parrish) Mahan, whom he married in 1986 and who died November 14, 2008.

A memorial service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 16, 2011 at McFarland & Son Funeral Home. Full military honors will be conferred following the service. Material contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
