George T. Daugherty, 82, of Warren, died Thursday, May 24, 2012 in the emergency room of Trumbull Memorial Hospital. He was born June 27, 1929 in Warren, the son of Theodore Jay and Hazel Marie (Jones) Daugherty, and had lived in Warren all his life.

A Korean War-era veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served in the Signal Corps, Mr. Daugherty was a graduate of Warren G. Harding High School and Youngstown State University. He was a banker for Trumbull Savings & Loan Co. for 34 years. He remained an avid golfer, even after becoming a double amputee. He had belonged to the American Legion, the Jaycees, the Chamber of Commerce, the Optimists, the Boy Scouts, and First United Methodist Church. After retirement, he kept busy volunteering at Trumbull Memorial Hospital, Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital, and the Salvation Army adult tutoring program.

Surviving are three children: David D. (Carolyn), Sallie A., and Amy J. Daugherty, all of Warren; three grandchildren: Erin Day, Brian Patrick, and Emily Elizabeth Daugherty; a great-grandson, Jacob Richard Daugherty; and a brother, Charles A. Daugherty of Warren. Preceding him in death is his wife, Janet Day (Krider) Daugherty, whom he married July 3, 1953 and who died May 18, 2009.

His life will be celebrated with a service at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, June 2, 2012 at McFarland & Son Funeral Home, with Rev. Rick Oaks officiating. Material contributions may be made to the Adapted Sports Program, Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital, 8747 Squires Lane N.E., Warren, Ohio 44484.
