Freda M. Ward, 85, of Champion, died 11:15 PM Monday, October 25, 2004 at Trumbull Memorial Hospital-Forum Health in Warren. She was born Wednesday, September 24, 1919, in Deerfield, Ohio, the daughter of the late David and Leta Middleton Sampson.

Mrs. Ward had attended Bohecker's Business College in Ravenna and had been a horticulturist for Warren Florist and Greenhouse. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Warren, where she sang in the choir and belonged to the Winifred Daugherty Circle. She had formerly belonged to Western Reserve Ceramics and 4-H, had been a cub scout den mother and a Toastmistress.

Surviving Mrs. Ward are her daughter, Norma Jean Williams of Bristolville; two sons, Robert E. and Richard L. Ward of Champion; four sisters: Irma Head of Diamond, Ohio, Helen Sampson of LaBelle, Florida, Frances Davis of Braceville, and Ruth Gintert of Rootstown, Ohio; two brothers: Robert Sampson of Diamond and David Sampson, Jr. of Charlestown, Ohio; seven grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Preceding Mrs. Ward in death are her parents; her husband, Norman E. Ward, whom she married June 11, 1941 and who died March 31, 2001; her son-in-law, Richard Williams; a grandson, Darren Williams; a brother, Thomas Sampson; and a sister, Donna Jean Mound.

Services for Mrs. Ward will be 11:00 AM Saturday, October 30, 2004 at McFarland and Son Funeral Home, 271 North Park Avenue, Warren, Ohio 44481, with Rev. Dale Briggs of North Bristol Christian Church officiating. Interment will follow at Sager Cemetery in Bristolville. Friends may call 6:00 to 8:00 PM Friday at the funeral home. Material contributions may be made either to the First Baptist Church Choir, 3217 Surrey Rd. S.E., Warren, Ohio 44484, or to Forum Health at Home-Hospice, 8747 Squires Lane N.E., Warren, Ohio 44484.
