Franklin R. Stevens of Warren, Ohio, recently of Bradenton, Florida died on April 5th 2010.
He was the son of Franklin R. Stevens Sr. and Maude E. (Conner) and brother of Edwin (Gladys) Stevens, all now deceased. He is survived by his sister Carolyn (Art) Anderson of North Port Florida and sister in law Gladys of Hiawassee, Georgia.
Mr. Stevens was born November 10, 1921 and was a 1941 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School. He married Jean M. (Grady) in 1946. Together, they have 3 Children: David (Jackie) Stevens, of Palm Coast, Florida, Elaine DiLella, of Warren, Ohio, and Phillip (Debra) of Naperville, Illinois. Additionally, he has seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, all surviving.
Mr. Stevens was a World War II veteran, serving in the 20th Air Corp - 501st Bomb Group in the South Pacific on Guam where he earned numerous medals and honors including 2 bronze stars. He was the oldest member of the First Baptist Church of Warren, Ohio, joining in 1932, where he taught Sunday School for more than 20 years. He was last employed by Wean Engineering and many years employed by Patterson-Emerson-Comstock Engineering, both in Warren, Ohio. He was an active member and Past Master of the Old Erie # 3 Masonic Lodge.
He put family first and enjoyed fishing, baseball, racquetball, bowling, and in his later years was very active in horseshoe tournaments and playing cards.
A memorial service will be held April 24th, 2010 at the Central Christian Church of Warren, Ohio on East Market Street at 4:30 PM. Memorial gifts may be sent to T.E. Covenant Church, 6828 Canada Blvd., Bradenton, Florida 34281.
