Florence A. Smith, 103, of Warren, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, June 8, 2011, surrounded by her loving family. She was born April 20, 1908 in Warren, the daughter of Paul Dana and Maude (Crooks) Abbott I, and moved in 1913 to the house where she spent the rest of her life.

A 1925 graduate of Warren High School, Mrs. Smith also attended Warren Business School. She worked as a secretary for Hamilton & Meigs on Parkman Rd., and was involved in the National Secretaries Association and the NAACP. She traveled in her early years and shook hands with Charles Lindbergh and Amelia Earhart. A crossword puzzle enthusiast, she would complete the daily puzzles in the Cleveland Plain Dealer and the New York Times in ink. She also enjoyed music, reading, and her grandchildren.

Surviving are her daughter, Georgiana S. (Michael A.) Williams, with whom she made her home; two grandchildren, Vanessa J. (Bray Schulte) and Michael G. Williams; and a great-granddaughter, Brenna A. Schulte. Preceding her in death are her husband, George L. Smith, whom she married February 7, 1948 and who died January 29, 1998; and a brother, Dana Abbott.

Graveside services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at Crown Hill Burial Park, with Rev. Patty Scahill of Celtic Healthcare officiating. Interment at Crown Hill Burial Park will follow.
