Evelyn M. MacBurney, 86, of Howland, died Saturday, May 2, 2009 at Hospice House in Poland. She was born May 31, 1922 in Newton Falls, the daughter of Robert J. and Harriet (Baker) McBurney, and had lived in Trumbull County all her life.

Ms. MacBurney was a 1940 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School, a 1944 graduate of Mount Union College, and earned a master's of education from Kent State University. She taught junior high school English in the Warren City Schools, retiring in 1979. A member of Alpha Chi Omega, she volunteered at Warren General Hospital, knitted afghans for Project Linus, and was an avid world traveler.

Surviving are her sister, Erma Russie of Warren, and a nephew, Bob McBurney of Lake Wylie, S.C. Preceding her in death are her parents, a sister, Verna McBurney, and a brother, Paul McBurney.

Services are 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at McFarland & Son Funeral Home, with Rev. Chris Wright of Covenant Presbyterian Church and Dr. Robert Long of the Coalition for Christian Outreach officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Hermitage, Pa. Friends may call 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Material contributions may be made either to the Coalition for Christian Outreach, 5912 Penn Ave., Pittsburgh, Pa. 15206-3805, or the Covenant Presbyterian Church, 263 E. State St., Sharon, Pa. 16146.
