MANSFIELD - Emily Jean Jewell Hapgood Husted, 90, formerly of Warren and Canfield, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2013 after a brief illness. She was born March 4, 1923 in Warren, the daughter of the late Earle K. and Alma Latimer Jewell.
Mrs. Husted graduated from Warren G. Harding High School in 1941, and from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1944 with a bachelor's degree in Education. She taught in the upper elementary grades at Elm Road School from 1944 to 1948. On June 26, 1948, she married Joseph C. Hapgood, Jr., who preceded her in death on September 6, 1964.
In Warren, Mrs. Husted was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Fort Nightly Study Club, Green Thumb Garden Club, Chi Omega Sorority, and several bridge clubs. From 1972 to 1975, she became the curator of the Sutliff Museum in the Warren Public Library. This served the community well through her love and knowledge of local history.
On November 8, 1975, she married Harold B. Husted, who preceded her in death on April 1, 2007. They made their home in Canfield, where they lived together for 32 years.
Mrs. Husted was a member of the Canfield United Methodist Church, where she served on many committees, Board of Trustees and the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood. Caring for her large family and service to her church and community were the center of her life. She also enjoyed spending time with friends, playing bridge, gardening, traveling, and family genealogy.
Memories of Emily will be carried on by her daughter, Susan (Norman) Minahan of Mansfield; son, John Hapgood of Warren; daughter, Mary (Gary) Schroeder of Fort Collins, CO; son Robert (Donna) Husted of Bowling Green, KY; daughter, Nancy (Paul) Wyen of Bellingham, WA; daughter-in-laws, Lili Cadeaux-Hapgood of Sonora, CA, Nancy Hapgood of Warren, and Lisa Husted of Mineral Ridge; 15 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her sons, William J. Hapgood and Norman J. Husted.
Calling hours for Mrs. Husted will be on September 9, 2013 from 9:30 - 11:00am at the Canfield United Methodist Church, 27 S. Broad Street, Canfield. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 am at the church with the Rev. Susan Brown officiating. Final committal services will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Warren.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her memory to Christian Education Fund at the Canfield United Methodist Church, 27 S. Broad Street, Canfield, OH 44406.
