Elma Soda

Elma Soda of Niles, passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2016 at 10:48 a.m. in her residence. She was 76.

Elma was born on August 19, 1939 in Olive Hill, KY, the daughter of the late James Eliot and Edna Skaggs Holbrook.

She attended Olive Hill School System. Mrs. Soda retired in 1997 after 27 years of employment in the housekeeping department of St. Joseph's Hospital.

Mrs. Soda was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Niles. She was a wonderful cook and her green thumb for gardening was famous throughout the neighborhood. Most importantly she loved spending time with her family. A true testament of that love, was that her family made sure that her last years were spent in the comforts of her home, where she felt most comfortable.

Her husband, Edward Soda, whom she married February 14, 1973, passed away on April 2, 1985.

She is survived by, 5 daughters, Lanna Holbrook, Debbie Lopez, Lisa Taddei and her companion Jim Johnson, Edna Duley, and Robin Soda; 8 grandchildren, James Preston Holbrook, Heather Holbrook, James Lopez, Brian and Brandon Bianco, John Pyatt, Ashley Duley, and Aubrey Duley; 10 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; 5 sisters, Joyce Skaggs of Olive Hill, KY, Loraine (Bob) Nicholson of Orlando, FL, Wilma (Louie) Harris of Salt Lick, KY, Glenna (Jerry) Gifford of Olive Hill, KY, and Chattie (Tim) Kiser of Olive Hill, KY; 2 brothers, Roy (Sue) Holbrook and Raymond (Rosie) Holbrook both of Olive Hill, KY.

In addition to her parents and husband, Elma was preceded in death by: a daughter, Brenda Kaye Conn; her companion of many years, Earl Waterman; 2 brothers, Tom and Richard "Bud" Holbrook;
