Edwin K. Calain, 63, of Lordstown, died peacefully Saturday, August 11, 2012 at Hospice House in Poland, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born August 8, 1949 in Elkins, W. Va., the son of Robert K. and Virginia Dove (Nethken) Calain, and had lived most of his life in Trumbull County.

A 1967 graduate of Warren Western Reserve High School, Mr. Calain was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving with NATO forces in Istanbul, Turkey. He worked in final inspection for General Motors in Lordstown, retiring in 2006 after 39 A½ years of employment.

A true community servant, he was Past Grand Regent of the Royal Arcanum, as well as serving Royal Arcanum in many subordinate offices. He had helped with many functions of the Supreme Council relating to Supreme Council sessions and Mini vacation. He had been on the committee to reactivate the Republic Council in Ohio, and had just been appointed an honorary member of the Junior Committee, having served many terms on the Supreme Council Junior Committee.

He was a member of the Lordstown Lions Club, serving three terms as president. He was team captain for Relay for Life, chairman of the Chinese Auction Committee, and active in many other Lions Club fund raisers. He had been honored as a Melvin Jones Fellow by Lions Clubs International.

He had served on the committee for the annual Lordstown Apple Cider Festival, and had chaperoned many activities and trips for both church and school.

He was named a fraternal MVP by the National Fraternal Congress of America for representing "the spirit of fraternalism and volunteerism" as part of their "Fraternalist-in-Action" program.

He was a charter member and current trustee of Parrot Hope Rescue.

A member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, he had served on boards in parish education and property, as a deacon, and on the church council. He had chaired many renovation projects and was currently serving on the 100th anniversary committee. He had spent endless hours with the youth, including chaperoning youth trips and projects.

He was an avid photographer, sharing much of his work with family and friends. He also enjoyed reading, travel, and computers.

Surviving are his wife, Diane (Logue) Calain, whom he married February 12, 1972; and a daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Brent Rupnik of Champion. Preceding him in death are his parents; a son, Andrew K. Calain, who died May 14, 1992; and a sister, Linda Gayle Calain.

Services are 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 140 Cherry Ave. N.W., Warren, Ohio 44485, with Rev. Dee Emmert officiating. Entombment with full military honors will follow at Crown Hill Burial Park. Friends may call 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the church. The Lions Club will conduct a service at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
