Dr. Robert H. Sacherman, 88
Bob Sacherman, devoted father of three and loving husband, passed away January 30th after a long illness.
A Youngstown native, Dr. Sacherman practiced dentistry in town providing excellent care meshed with wit and humor for almost 50 years. His loving attention, kidding and constant good humor will be missed by all of his family; including his wife Carol of 62 years; his three children, Josie, Jill and Jimmy; his grandchildren, Kyeen, Luke, Kevin, Benjamin and Lillian; and Great Grandchildren, Alexis and Amelia. Bob's twin brother, Harold Sacherman, also passed recently. Bob's family joins with Harold's family in missing these two brothers, deeply. Bob and Harold were raised in one of the duplexes on Dennick Avenue by their parents, Lillian and David Sacherman and attended Rayen High School, before both served in the Navy during WWII.
Bob was an active skier and sailor, an enthusiastic YMCA squash player, inventor, ceramic potter and handyman, always eager to help out a neighbor or friend. He and Carol enjoyed traveling, often backpacking and having a wide circle of close friends. Many will remember the "Flying Club" in the basement of his Lincoln Avenue office. No airplanes were involved, only stories and jokes.
Bob was a board member of the local ACLU, the Youngstown Historical Society and WYSU FM.
A celebration honoring Dr. Sacherman will be on April 4th, 2015 from 2PM till 4PM at the Butler Museum of Art.
