She married Clayton E. Stambaugh on August 27, 1951. She graduated from Case Western Reserve with a degree in Library Science and worked at the Youngstown Library before spending many years as the librarian at the Trumbull Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, assisting students with their research assignments. Along with her husband, who was a WWII bomber pilot, she raised her family in the Hills and Dales area of Howland before eventually moving to Lake Vista in Cortland, and then to Idaho in 2007.
Dorothy found humor in even the most mundane circumstance, and thoroughly enjoyed the company of friends and family. She was a devoted and long time member of PEO, serving for several years as President. Dorothy was an enthusiastic seamstress and she especially enjoyed handwork such as knitting, cross-stitching and quilting. Her home was adorned with many lovely displays of her handiwork. Dorothy and Clayt were able to travel after their retirement on many enjoyable trips to visit their sons.
She is survived by her son Karl, daughter in law Alice, and grandson Jacob, and her son Mark and daughter in law Donna. She was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters, Eleanor Redell and Doris Mercer, and a brother Raymond.
