Doris May Nicora

Warren, Ohio - Doris May Nicora, 79, died Friday, January 9, 2015 surrounded by her family at Hospice and Life Care Center, Wilmington NC. She was born on May 22, 1935 in Warren, OH and raised in Windham, OH the daughter of the late Orrin and Thelma Foy Knapp.

Doris was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and Meeting Planners International. She was retired as a meeting planner for Iron & Steel Society in Pittsburgh. She had worked for 21 years as secretary at Van Huffle Tube. She was a member of the 1st United Methodist Church, Warren and Dayspring United Methodist Church in Tempe, AZ.

She divided her time between Ohio and Phoenix AZ where she owned and operated a bed & breakfast. She enjoyed traveling (domestic and internationally) and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Family was a very important part of her life taking pleasure in sharing holidays to watching her grandchildren play sports.

She was a remarkable and inspirational woman who touched many lives.

Doris' legacy will be carried on by: daughters, Sherri (John) Tinney of Wilmington, NC, Tammi (John) Penman of Warren, OH, son, Mark (Darcy) Nicora of Manhattan Beach CA, stepdaughter, Debbi (Roger) Grimmett, Dover, OH, grandsons, Jonathan, Chris, and Ben Penman, granddaughters, Jessica Tinney and Gianna Nicora, great granddaughter, Isabelle Penman, and her twin sister, Betty (Bill) Slezak of Holland, MI.

She was preceded in death by her husbands Robert Allen, Pete Nicora and Wilford Pomeroy.

Family will receive friends Tuesday, January 13, 2015 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at McFarland & Son Funeral Home, Warren and one hour prior to services. Services will be held at the funeral home Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at 11:00 am with Rev. Rick Oaks officiating. Services of final committal will follow at Windham Township Cemetery in Windham, Ohio.

Her family suggest contributions be made in the form of donations to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, Life Care 1406 Physicians Dr. Wilmington NC. 28401.
