Donald F. King, 90, of Warren, passed away at one pm, Thursday, February 5, 2009 at Trumbull Memorial Hospital. He was born January 6, 1919 in New Kensington, Pennsylvania to Harold and Ora Warren King.
Donald moved to Warren as a child and graduated from Warren G. Harding in 1937. He followed in his father's and grandfather's footsteps and made a career in the printing trade, operating a Linotype for over twenty years. He was a veteran of the US Army during World War II, serving as a chaplain's assistant in the Philippines where he received two bronze stars for evacuating the wounded under fire at Manila. He was a lifelong member of Tod Ave. United Methodist Church and a founding member of the Angelus Class. Donald was a devoted husband and father, enjoyed the outdoors, traveling, and playing the organ.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Gladys Howell King, whom he married in 1945 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, while he was stationed at Camp Shelby. Also living is a sister, Shirley Knock, daughters Kathy Ball of Florida and Carolyn (Rey) Collazo of Warren, granddaughter Angela Collazo, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Warren King, two sisters, Sara Palo and Genevieve Best, daughter Donna Sayers, and a nephew Karl Palo.
Services will be held at Tod Avenue Methodist Church in Warren on Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at 11:00 am, with calling hours beginning at 10:00 am. A luncheon supplied by the church will follow. Interment will take place at a later date. Material contributions may be made to Tod Avenue United Methodist Church, 155 Tod Ave. N.W., Warren, Ohio 44485.
