David Morris Helman, 83, died at 5:15 AM Sunday, January 4, 2004 at Shepherd of the Valley in Howland. He was a lifelong resident of Warren who enjoyed the company of a wide circle of friends.
He was born February 23, 1920 in Warren, Ohio, the son of the late Morris and Pauline Helman.
David graduated from Warren G. Harding in 1937. He went on to graduate from Colgate University, Hamilton, N.Y., in 1941. He was a member of the Delta Upsilon fraternity. He joined the U.S. Navy upon college graduation.
He retired from Republic Steel in 1978 with over thirty years of service.
Dave was a member of the Buckeye Club, Jaycees, Elks 295, and the Forest Oaks Traveling Golf Association. He also served as a board member of the Oakwood Cemetery as well as the board of Forum Health - Trumbull Memorial Hospital.
He married the former Clare Moore Schooley, who survives, on November 17, 1984. He was preceded in death by his previous wife, Elizabeth Helman, and granddaughter Kate Helman.
David is survived by his wife; by three sons: David of Dove Canyon, California, Robert of Manhattan Beach, California, and Marc of Strongsville, Ohio; and by four grandchildren: Erin, Grady, David, and Patrick.
A memorial service for Mr. Helman will be held at 12:00 Noon Thursday, January 8, 2004 at Christ Episcopal Church, 2627 Atlantic St. N.E., Warren, with Fr. Robert Lindberg officiating. Inurnment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Warren. Friends may call at the church two hours before the service.
