David J. Do, 73, died peacefully in his home in Howland on Monday, June 24, 2019. He was born in South Korea, on January 1, 1946, the son of the late Samoon Do and Malsoon Jung. While in seminary, he joined the South Korean Army, serving alongside US forces during the Vietnam War. Upon his return, he obtained a Bachelors in Theology from Seoul Methodist Seminary; and the Masters in Divinity and Masters in Theology from Seoul Presbytarian Theological Seminary.
David met and married Insook Kim and together they raised two sons. David was a pastor for PC-USA and the Christian Missionary Alliance Church (CM&A) serving at many locations throughout the US including California and NY for over 45 years. He founded the Shalom Korean C&MA church in Albany, NY where he pastored his congregation and lead a college ministry to students at various local colleges including RPI, Union College and SUNY Albany. He retired 2 years ago and moved to Howland.
David loved spending as much time as possible with his family, especially his 3 grandchildren: Kara, Caleb and Samuel. He loved preaching the Bible, serving his congregation, caring for his many pets, shopping online, taking walks with his wife, gardening, and was an avid golfer. He loved to laugh and his humor often made its way into his sermons.
Surviving are his mother; Malsoon Jung, wife; Insook Kim, two sons; Sung (Chelsea) Do of Warren, Young (Stephanie) Do of Albany, NY, brother Jongun (Jungsook) of Korea, and sister; Yoingsook of Korea.
He was preceded in death by his father; Samoon Do, brother; Jong Do, and sister; Sungsook.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am July 6, 2019 at the Palmyra United Methodist Church, 3968 State Route 225, Diamond, OH 44412.
