David C. Bixler

AKRON, OH - David C. Bixler, Jr., 92, (formerly of Warren) died Thursday, April 9, 2015 at Brookdale Place of Bath. He was born on August 25, 1922 in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of the late David and Elizabeth (Jones) Bixler.

Dave retired as the Warren Division Manager of Ohio Edison in 1987 where he worked for 40 years. He was a graduate of The Ohio State University and was a licensed Professional Engineer and a member of the Triangle Fraternity of Engineers.

He was active in the Howland United Methodist Church and served on several of the community's Boards of Directors including the Warren Area Chamber of Commerce, First Federal Savings and Loan, and Trumbull Memorial Hospital. He was a member of the Warren Rotary Club, Trumbull County Country Club, and the Buckeye Club. He was chairman of the United Way Financial Campaign and was honored to receive "Man of the Year" Award from the Warren Area Jaycees. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, tinkering, and spending time with friends and family.

He married his high school sweetheart R. Jane (Parry) Bixler on March 2, 1946. Together they raised a family, were active in the community and enjoyed traveling, visiting all 50 states and several foreign countries.

He served his country in the US Army during World War II in Africa, Italy, France, and Germany.

Memories of David will be carried on by son, David C. (Kristine) Bixler, III of Hermosa Beach, CA; daughter, Pamela B. (Dale) Gerus of Akron, OH; grandson, Jeffrey (Denise) Thompson of Northridge, CA; great-grandchildren, Michael and Samantha Thompson; brother, William R. Bixler of Punta Gorda, FL; sister-in-law, Marilyn Bixler of Alpharetta, GA; and extended family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane (April, 2005); brother, Charles Bixler; and sister, Mary Hallett.

A memorial service for David will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, April 19, 2015 at the McFarland & Son Funeral Home, Warren. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the Sunday service at the McFarland & Son Funeral Home, Warren. Additional calling hours are being held on Saturday, April 18, 2015 from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm at the Billow Fairlawn Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., Akron, OH, 44333, (330) 867-4141, www.billowfuneralhomes.com . A private internment will precede services at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Youngstown.
