Colin B. Hamilton

Colin B. Hamilton, 78, of Howland, died Monday, July 11, 2011 at Autumn Hills Care Center in Niles. He was born August 26, 1932 in Bayonne, N.J., the son of Ernest and Stella Rebecca (Sprague) Hamilton.

A graduate of Amherst Central High School in Snyder, N.Y., and Monmouth (Ill.) College, Mr. Hamilton served in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves. He worked as a chemist and metallurgist for the Atomic Energy Commission in Ames, Iowa, for U.S. Steel in Pittsburgh, and retired from Thomas Steel Strip Corp. in Warren. A bagpiper since college, he enjoyed playing bridge, gardening, bowling sailing, traveling, reading, and sports, especially the Steelers and the Buckeyes. A member of Howland United Methodist Church, he was also involved with the Men's Garden Club in Youngstown, the Food Shelf Ministry at Richard Brown United Methodist Church in Youngstown, and the American Society of Metals. He had also been a Mason while living in Iowa.

Surviving are his wife, Eloise (Pierson) Hamilton, whom he married August 2, 1955; three children: Tamara Fowler and Andrea Carrier, both of Buckhannon, W. Va., and Dr. Ernest Hamilton of Granville; six grandchildren: Jonathan (Lisa) Hamilton, Courtney, Andrew, and Chelsea Carrier, and Ethan and Elliott Hamilton; two great-grandchildren: Jordan Hamilton and Alexis Carrier; and a brother, Robert Hamilton of Columbus.

A memorial service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 16, 2011 at Howland United Methodist Church, with Rev. Matt Darrin and Rev. Ron Spore officiating. Friends may call 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the church. Material contributions may be made either to the Howland United Methodist Church, 730 Howland Wilson Rd. N.E., Warren, Ohio 44484, or the Food Shelf Ministry, Richard Brown United Methodist Church, 1205 Elm Street, Youngstown, OH 44505.
