Clarence Hanson

HUDSON - Clarence C. Hanson, 96, formerly of Warren, died peacefully on Thursday, April 3, 2014, surrounded by the love of his family.
Clarence was born on April 1, 1918, in Akron to George and Opal Hanson.
Clarence was a 1936 graduate of Parma High School and attended Case and Johns Hopkins universities with a major in mechanical engineering.
after many corporate moves, he retired as an executive of Ajax Magnethermic, Warren, where he worked for more than 25 years. His career in the induction heating industry started with the TOCCO division of Ohio Crankshaft in Cleveland and Westinghouse Electric in Baltimore.
He was an elder and trustee of the First Presbyterian Church of Warren. In addition, he was a 32nd Degree Mason in Warren and a Shriner in Youngstown.
Clarence was a leader in his community, where he served as president of Warren's YMCA board, the Trumbull County Manufacturing Association and the Trumbull County Library Association. After adding new jobs in Kentucky, he became a Kentucky colonel.
His hobbies included golfing, piloting small planes, sailing on Lake Chautauqua, N.Y., making woodworking projects treasured by family and friends and playing bridge. Most recently, he resided in the Laurel Lake Retirement Community in Hudson.
He is survived by a daughter, Joan (Joe) Selden of Hudson; a grandson, Brian (Nicole) Selden of Los Altos, Calif.; a granddaughter, Beth (Gregory) Matyja of Hudson; and four great-grandchildren, Catherine and John Selden and Sarah and Matthew Matyja.
His wife of 66 years, Carol Hanson, and his brother, Robert Hanson, preceded him in death.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Congregational Church in Hudson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Warren, 256 Mahoning Ave. N.W., Warren, OH 44483, or the First Congregational Church of Hudson, 47 Aurora St., Hudson, OH 44236.
